THE SHOWMAN OF LOVE AND BEAUTY

MEET MY FAVORITE SAYEED QUADRI THE LYRICST OF ROMANTIC AND EMOTIONAL SONGS

Picture

Bheenge Hont Tere - who comes to your mind when the song is played? Kunal Ganjawala, Mallika Sherawat or at the most Anu Malik. But how many know the man who actually wrote these sensual words. Sayeed Quadri has been writing some beautiful undiluted lyrics since the past few years. His filmography includes names like Jism, Rog, Murder, Kalyug, Gangster, Fareb and the recent Bas Ek Pal.

An LIC agent by profession, he has an inbuilt flair for poetry. Despite ample use of Urdu, his songs are still comprehensible unlike other lyricists.

The single characteristic that distinguished this master-lyricists from most word-spinners of today is that intangible ‘X’ factor, a quality that connotes the perfect mix of elegant language, new thought, fresh phrases, simplicity and depth and a perfect fit with musical metres and phonetics. Sayeed Quadri has this ‘X’ factor in abundance, and his songs directly connect with the listeners’ hearts. The 40-plus Sayeedbhai seems reserved but comes across as humble and warm. He may be attired in jeans and shirts, but it is his work that separates this man from the boys, as proved by his cream in Jism, Saaya, Murder, Zeher, Life In A…Metro and The Train, Anwar and Awarapan

A poet introducing urdu poetry to young and old via his fresh lyrics in Bollywood movie songs.

Sayeed Quadri is a new poet in Bollywood, who has started reintroducing urdu poetry to youngsters through his beautiful lyrics. A poet operating from Jodhpur, Sayeed does not traditionally live in Bombay to write his song lyrics. Instead, he works full time as an insurance agent in Jodhpur Rajasthan and delivers his lyrics for film songs on phone or by occasional visits to Bombay.

Sayeed Qadri first came to Bombay from Jodhpur for work in the 80s.He met with Mahesh Bhatt who liked him, but could not offer him any films as Bhutt was not an independent film producer yet. Sayeed had to return to his city. He did not give up though - remained in touch with Mahesh Bhutt. Luck smiled at Sayeed while Jism was in the making. Mahesh Bhutt asked Sayeed to write a few songs for the film and the rest is history full of Mahesh Bhutt chartbuster songs written by Sayeed Quadri!

The successful lyricist kept moving up on the ladder of success with each movie that he wrote lyrics for such as Saaya, Rog, Kalyug, Gangster, Fareb, Bas Ek Pal and the recent Metro, and The Train.

Sayeed admits writing is not his profession, it is his hobby. He believes there is a revival of thoughtful and meaningful lyrics in hindi movie songs. He tries to induce fresh thoughts in his movie lyrics , keeping them deep and substantial which the listeners love about him. Quadri’s poetry has proved that urdu shayari can be appreciated by older as well as younger generation if it is presented well.

Sayeed lives in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, with his wife and sons. He is inspired by Sahir Ludhiyanvi and says he is giving back to the world (in the form of poetry/lyrics) what he has received from life.
